Jan M. Boivin

Jan Muranaka Boivin counsels employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including discrimination, wrongful termination, workplace violence, drug and alcohol testing, wage and hour compliance, and employment-related torts. Ms. Boivin has assisted employers with investigations conducted by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Hawaii Civil Rights Commission, Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health Division, and other divisions of the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. She has conducted fact-finding investigations involving workplace violence and sexual and other forms of harassment.

Prior to joining MJW as an associate in 2006, she represented management in all aspects of labor and employment law at the law firm of Torkildson, Katz et al. She has represented corporate defendants in matters requiring class action resolution and settlement administration.

Ms. Boivin received her undergraduate degree in political science and Japanese from Willamette University and her law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. She served as a law clerk to the Board on Professional Responsibility, District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and was awarded a legal internship in the Labor and Employment Division of the Census Bureau, United States Department of Commerce.

Ms. Boivin is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts of Hawaii and Virginia.
